From the Alps – 1969 Sunbeam Alpine GT

April 9, 2016

Sixties and seventies coupes and GT cars on the affordable end of the scale are a big part of the content here, and cars like Capris and Alfetta GTs are frequent features. Sunbeam Alpines in the later Hillman Hunter-based version have interesting Barracuda-influenced styling and a powerplant that, fitted with the optional Holbay head, can produce a decent amount of power. What’s more is, if you go for this later Alpine hardtop, you get a pillarless style as a bonus. Unfortunately, the cars were never as cherished as their earlier convertible siblings, and so most of them are projects – some better, some worse. Fortunately, a fairly decent looking one has come up recently – check out this 1969 Sunbeam Alpine GT for sale for $2150 in Vancouver, WA.

Naming Game – 1965 Sunbeam Alpine

September 11, 2014

As the frequently ignored third leg of the everyman British sports car trio (MGB, Triumph TR, Sunbeam Alpine), the Sunbeam Alpine often doesn’t get the consideration it deserves. And as if that’s not bad enough, it also lives in the shadow of its hot-rod hybrid brother, the Tiger. So let’s take a look at the Alpine, which featured greater civility than its competition while maintaining a decent power output and slightly more flamboyant style than the competition. Check out this 1965 Sunbeam Alpine for sale for $2250 near Concord, CA.

Heckflosse Has Nothing On This – 1961 Sunbeam Alpine

November 26, 2013

In addition to wind-up windows, door handles, and a proper top, the Sunbeam Alpine was criticized for its styling. It had more than a passing similarity to Ford’s Thunderbird, and had some pretty huge fins for a post-war British car. However, it was quite prescient, and its more successful competition followed with cars like the MGB and TR4 sprouting wind-up windows and other comforts once considered too soft. As a result, the Alpine makes a pretty usable car, even by today’s standards. You can find this 1961 Sunbeam Alpine Series 1 for sale for $2750 in Beaverton, OR.
