In 1970, you could get any number of compact sports cars that were based on designs and platforms from the 50s and 60s – look at any product from Triumph or MG, and while Fiat and Alfa were definitely more modern, the basic twin-cam 4/live rear axle roadster setup had its roots firmly in earlier cars. Even though those are fun machines in their own right, it was only later in the 1970s that automakers started releasing truly modern sports cars like the Fiat X1/9 and Triumph TR7. But while the concept of the Opel GT dated back to the early 1960s, the actual car came out in 1968. Check out this 1970 Opel GT for sale for $2500 in Portland, OR.

July 29, 2015Fete du Canada – 1975 Bricklin SV-1
July 1, 2015There’s nothing to make a Canadian’s heart swell with pride like talking about the home automotive industry. Recent cars include the full-size Ford Crown Victoria, but along with Volvos and various American cars (including some Canada-specific brands and models like the Acadian), there was nothing that was exclusively Canadian in the way this car was. That’s right, it’s the unsuccessful attempt at a sports car known as the Bricklin SV-1, a sort of safety car for people with a vague idea of fun that includes gullwing doors, a 351 Ford with C6 automatic, and AMC Hornet suspension and brakes. Check out this 1975 Bricklin SV-1 for sale for $2750 in Fort Collins, TX.
No Bubbles – 1979 Mazda RX-7 and bonus 1984 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE
June 28, 2015Reading some of the more highbrow sites, you might get the impression there’s some kind of a run-up in the prices of SA and FB series RX-7s, but a quick scan of the local online listings will tell you otherwise. These cars are still very affordable for your average enthusiast, even in the purest early versions and the most powerful GSL-SE specification. If you truly believe in automotive diversity, you do need to at least drive a rotary once in your life, and for these prices who can’t afford an extended test drive? Check out this 1979 Mazda RX-7 for sale for $3000 in Puyallup, WA.
