Violent Anger – 1967 Plymouth Fury III

April 24, 2014

In case you were wondering, “violent anger” is the definition of fury. And while “I drive a Plymouth Violent Anger III with a big block V8” sounds much more manly, it’s also quite a mouthful, never mind the size of the badge you’d need to display the model name. Fury is far better if being succinct is your goal. The Fury III was the top-spec model (Furys I and II being lower-spec cars), and as with Ford, Cadillac, and Mercedes, Elwood Engle started using vertically stacked headlights on his designs. Furys came will all kinds of engines, all the way from a 225ci slant six to the brutal 426 Wedge V8. Our car falls closer to the 426 in terms of power – you can find this 1967 Plymouth Fury III for sale for $2750 in Phoenix, AZ.

Not a GTI – 1989 Plymouth Colt GT Turbo

March 7, 2014

Before many manufacturers happened on the clever idea of throwing a turbo on their hot hatch engines, Mitsubishi (and by extension, Dodge/Plymouth) were doing it. Starting in 1984, they put the 4G32T turbo four in the fourth generation Colt GT (with the famous twin stick transmission), and by 1989, the sixth generation Colt GT received the 135hp 4G61T. With the turbo lag of the day, this must have been really fun, and this version of Colt GT has become something of a cult favorite with tuners, who modify the factory engine or slip in a 4G63T engine from the DSM Eclipse/Talon/Laser. Unfortunately, the combination of tuning and the cars’ cheap-speed mean that many have been lost to attrition, and the remainder are hard to find for sale. You can find this 1989 Plymouth Colt GT Turbo for sale for C$3200 in Mission, BC.

Wagon Friday – 1971 Plymouth Satellite

January 17, 2014

Since it’s a holiday weekend (well, at least for some folks), it seems worth featuring a couple of station wagons like the ones people might have used to get out of town. 1971 brought the third generation Satellite, this time bringing it in line with the fuselage styling on the larger Fury line. And – let’s talk about the name itself for a second – Satellite is a great name, as it evokes the period in which it was built, with the space race and cold war in full swing, even if the connotation (a lesser planet that circles a larger one) is not incredibly flattering. Of course, the Satellites also recall many a car chase in movies and TV shows of the 1970s and 1980s. You can find this 1971 Plymouth Satellite wagon for sale in North Seattle, WA with a starting bid of $275 and 3 days left to go.
