Countach Junior – 1974 Fiat X1/9

November 22, 2013

Perhaps relating this humble sports car to a Countach is overdoing it a little. But give it a moment’s thought – how many early 1970s cars can you describe with the following attributes: angular wedge shape, mid-engine, Italian, and in a bright pale green on bright blue color scheme? Most people will think of a Miura or Countach when you list those off, but you can have a similar experience for much less. And it’s arguably more fun, since if you stuff it into a hedge you won’t have wrecked a six-figure car, even if these are probably equally rare. You can find this 1974 Fiat X1/9 for sale in Oakland, CA with bidding currently at $2225, reserve not met and just over one day left to go.

Not from Berlin – 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina

November 18, 2013

To celebrate last weekend’s Berlina Register drive through the wine country backroads, and because hey, an affordable one actually came up, we have an example of this early sports sedan to share. While BMW was just getting things going with the Neue Klasse and 02-series cars, Alfa Romeo had been building sporting sedans since at least 1950. Released in 1967 (1969 in North America), the Berlina took the basic Giulia sedan and changed the front, rear and doors to make a new, larger car. They never quite matched BMW’s success with the 2002 (and to a lesser degree, the 1602), but these days enjoy strong demand among enthusiasts. Prices for good, solid drivers have slipped out of our realm, so these rarely come up, but you can find this 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina in Menlo Park, CA for only $1500.

Number 300 – 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT

November 12, 2013

Today we’re reaching a minor milestone with our 300th post. And to celebrate, it seemed most appropriate to find something that is represented in the RustyButTrusty fleet. Alfa Romeo Alfettas are few and far between, particularly on the road, so it’s always interesting to see others available. Mostly, these are west coast cars, but in this case someone in New Jersey was actually able to keep the rust worm from doing too much damage to the body. So if you’re in the Northeast, this may be a worth candidate for a fix-in-winter, drive-next-summer car. You can find today’s 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT for sale in Orange, NJ for a mere $1300.
