RustyButTrusty on the Street – Fiat, Two Landies, and a Citroen

February 27, 2014

In another edition of RustyButTrusty on the Street, we reveal more of the fruits of the streets of San Francisco, courtesy of the ranks of La Resistance Contre-Prius (wow, that sounds like a real thing). Leading the charge is this early-ish (pre-impact bumper) 1974 Fiat Spider. For the anoraks out there, the 1974 assumption is based on the rubber Sabrinas visible on the front bumper, which, while not as bad as those found on period Triumphs, would be best removed and tossed in the nearest dustbin.

Not a Bear – 1993 Fiat Panda

February 21, 2014

Built from 1980 to 2003, the Fiat Panda was conceived as a sort of modern Citroen 2CV. While it was not as innovative as the 2CV, it was still a fairly interesting car, and sold in various permutations including a ragtop, van, electric, and 4-wheel-drive, beating Subaru to the punch in the thriving 4wd city car segment. It was built with a number of Fiat legacy engines, donated by the 126, 850, and later the Uno, with which it shared the engines from Fiat’s FIRE series. The car’s designer was Giorgetto Giugiaro – yes, he of the Alfa Romeo 2600 sprint, Giulia GT, and Hyundai Excel. You can find this 1993 Fiat Panda for sale for $3500 in Downey, CA.

Fiat Day – Fiat 128 and Brava Sedan Madness

January 31, 2014

For some reason, a recent search yielded a surfeit of Fiat sedans. You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking most of these cars had taken the “ashes to ashes, rust to rust” route, and there are usually only one or two for sale at a time in North America. However, right now there are at least 4 available, and it’s quite likely that some of the other 128s recently featured here are still available. The real score would be a small bumper 128, but those seem to have gone the way of Elvis (nobody’s sure if he’s dead, but occasionally some nut job claims to have seen him – the same statement applies in both cases). Check out this 1976 Fiat 128 2-door sedan for sale with bidding at $750 and two days left to go.
