The Fire’s Gone Out – 1983 Renault Fuego Turbo

February 29, 2016

Have you ever wanted to come into the turbo zone? There aren’t many 1980s sports coupes left that would take you there – VW’s Scirocco, Toyota’s Celica and Nissan’s 200SX didn’t offer turbo power, and few of those survive. The only car in the Fuego’s class to offer a turbo was the Subaru (Leone) coupe, and not many of those have survived. And even with a turbo, performance went from slow with the stock naturally aspirated four to decent – comparable to many other naturally aspirated cars – with the turbo. That said, it was remarkable for several other things, like fuel injection, a low-for-the-time coefficient of drag, and in the European market, the first remote door locking system and audio controls on the steering wheel. Check out this 1983 Renault Fuego Turbo for sale for $1000 in Beverly, MA.

Body Color Bumpers – 1977 Ford Capri MkII

February 12, 2016

While the early Capri coupes are arguably prettier, with their smaller chrome bumpers, it seems like Ford made a genuine effort to disguise the required modifications to its 1974-77 Capris. So the later cars have body colored bumpers, a design feature that wasn’t adapted by many other cars until well into the 1980s. Combined with a greater prevalence of the more powerful 2.8-liter Cologne V6 – okay, maybe not after the EPA was finished with it – these cars are not all bad, unless you’re in a state that does not have a rolling emissions exemption. Early or late, though, all Capris are pretty rare, and finding a solid one for a nice price is fairly unusual. So it’s a pleasure to find this 1977 Ford Capri for sale for $2500 $1900 in Vancouver, WA.

German GT – 1973 Mercedes 450 SLC

February 5, 2016

If you’re looking for that classic European GT experience at an affordable price of entry, without facing the complexity of say, a Jaguar V12, there aren’t many choices out there. Contemporaries of the C107 Mercedes coupes included the E9 BMW coupes, Jaguar XJ-S and XJ6C, Citroen SM, Alfa Romeo Montreal, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe, or Maserati Indy, but none are as accessible as the Mercedes. What’s more is, thanks to the 8-year run of the C107 and the epic 16-year run of the R107, many parts are plentiful, even in junkyards if you are persistent. That said, don’t kid yourself into thinking this will be cheap, but that’s not reason enough to disregard this 1973 Mercedes 450 SLC for sale for $2000 in Lynnwood, WA.
