Baby’s Back – 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

May 23, 2016

After a protracted period of downtime following its interstate move, the RustyButTrusty Alfa Spider took a time-out under a cover in the garage. Its issues were minor, but it finally went down to the local Alfa doctor in Portland to get some attention. Fortunately, the minor issues included an air leak causing a racing idle, along with a chunk missing out of a long-cracked donut, and some pinging under part throttle. With these problems resolved (at relatively small cost, fortunately), it’s eager to please again. Which brings us to an important point – the 105/115-chassis Spider is one of the best and most cost-effective ways to live the Alfa experience. Check out this 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce for sale for $4500 in Napa County, CA.

Open Boat – 1975 Buick LeSabre Convertible

May 19, 2016

The last big convertibles marketed by GM are imposing in their size and presence. And you didn’t need to buy a top-end Cadillac to get your big-convertible fix – middle managers could get a Pontiac Catalina, Oldsmobile 88, or the Buick, and working schmos could get a Chevrolet Caprice. And while driving a convertible these days means sacrificing space or convenience, these cars seat six and are equipped with power folding tops, so you can be pretty spontaneous about dropping the top, and they can take you near or far – providing you’re not afraid of getting half the fuel mileage of a modern convertible. Check out this 1975 Buick LeSabre convertible for sale for $3999 in the South Shore area of Boston, MA.

For Real? – 1970 Fiat 850 Spider

April 5, 2016

Basic sports cars are truly about the most bang for the buck – Midgets, Sprites, 700s, Spitfires and 850s all share enthusiastic (if not powerful) engines, sharp and often Italian styling, commonly have a removable top, and will do quite a bit of what the big-boy Bs, TR6s, Spiders and more will do on a fraction of the fuel. With attrition over the last 40 years, it’s not so common to find a running example for a low price of entry, which means you should take a look at this 1970 Fiat 850 Spider for sale for $900 in Sebastopol, CA.
