Blue Mopar Day – 1966 Dodge Dart Wagon and 1964 Imperial Crown

May 14, 2016

Lest we forget what the US was doing in the same period as some of the other cars featured here this past week, let’s look back at a couple of American products. With the benefit of hindsight, American car (not truck/crossover) offerings seem to have been much broader in the immediate post-war period, and the Chrysler corporation is a good example of this. Chrysler offered everything from basic captive imports (Simca and then the Plymouth Cricket) up through the ultra-luxurious Imperial Crown (if that name doesn’t convey a certain level of ambition, what name does?). Taking the role of number three in the big 4, their products were often also the most interesting – they had to come up with compelling ways to differentiate their products from the two dominant players. To start, let’s look at this 1966 Dodge Dart wagon for sale for $2500 in San Jose, CA.

Bookending the War – 1941 Oldsmobile Dynamic 78

May 5, 2016

When you spend the better part of a morning under the hood battling emissions equipment in a small car, it’s nice to think what life might be like with a large car that has no emissions equipment whatsoever, unless you count the exhaust system. No matter how cool, no modern car has the same visual impact as a prewar model with (nearly) separate fenders, a tall grill, and Rubenesque styling. And the fun thing with one of these that’s unrestored is it’s a bit like that grandma house on the block that hasn’t been on the market since the fifties – it’s a bit musty, and a bit dim, but you can just feel the past 60 years in its walls. With that, let’s take a look at this 1941 Oldsmobile Dynamic 78 for sale for $4500 in San Francisco, CA.

Ranger XR4Ti – 1989 Ford Ranger Turbo

April 16, 2016

There aren’t many trucks that capture that 1980s sense of turbocharged fun – Toyota briefly offered turbocharged versions of its Hilux trucks in the 1980s, and of course there was GMC’s over-the-top Syclone, but that was about it. If you wanted something with a peaky turbo engine and the ability to haul half the contents of a 1-bedroom apartment, you had to look to Sweden, where you could get a Saab 900 turbo or a Volvo 240 Turbo wagon. But what if you didn’t? Answering that question is this 1989 Ford Ranger turbo for sale for $4000 in Vancouver, WA.
