What’s Two-Fer in Italian? Pair of Fiat 850 Spiders

September 9, 2013

Is it due-per? Anyhow, these little Bertone spiders are such fun-looking little cars. People who’ve owned them say that although they’re not fast, they feel quick, and of course there’s the whole thing about having a great time going at 10/10ths in a slow car. There’s also something remarkably sophisticated about them for a car their class – front disc brakes, coils and trailing link suspension at the rear, and simple folding top that hides under a tidy metal cover. And what is better than a car of such elegance and pedigree as the Fiat 850 spider? Two Fiat 850 spiders, for the bargain price of $4000 in Covington, WA.

1971 Fiat 850 Sedan Special

August 11, 2011

Sometimes, you see a weirdo car that just says Buy Me, ‘Cause There Aren’t Many Like Me Out There. This is one of those cars – a lightly warmed over 850 sedan. When’s the last time you saw one of these that wasn’t either rusted out, sun-parched, or both? This is a long-time (maybe original) California car with an interior that doesn’t look like it spent its life in the sun. With the same powerplant and underpinnings as the 850 spider, this should have the same fun quotient, feeling like it’s going faster than it ever is while allowing you to bring along more friends than the spider. It’s listed with bidding currently at $2550 and 1 day to go in Highland, CA (just near Sacramento).

Small & Pretty – 1967 Fiat 850 Coupe

March 17, 2011

Fiat really was at a high point back in the late 1960s. Okay, so they had a bit of a rust problem, but at that time most cars rusted rather readily. Just think of what they had coming out at the time, though – the 850 coupe, the 850 spider, the 124 coupe, the 124 spider, and the Dinos if you count those. Sadly, due to the aforementioned rust issue and the fact that the 850 and 124 were considered cheap daily driver cars, most of them have disappeared or been made into refrigerators. However, some were fortunate enough to end up in places like Texas, and even if their mechanicals didn’t hold up, their bodies lasted long enough so that with some love they could live on in the hands of nuts like us.

With that, I’ll share this example, which is available in Pasadena, TX for $3000. A little rich for an 850, maybe? Well, consider the body work that most of them need. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this Texas car (with period TX plates, so you can guess it’s been there for a while) has very limited rust, so you can postpone any body repairs and focus on the brakes and running gear.
