Vanguard Replacement – 1967 Triumph 2000 Mark 1

May 8, 2014

Britain of the early 1960s was recovering from the war, and as such, manufacturers perceived a demand for entry-level luxury cars, that had some of the features of Rovers, Jaguars, and Humbers, but without the purchase and maintenance cost of those cars. In 1963, Triumph released the 2000 sedan, coincidentally in the same month as Rover released their P6 2000. With modern styling including a nose reminiscent of the American Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln Continental, the 2000 was powered by a 1998cc six-cylinder that first appeared in the Standard Vanguard in 1960. It truly was one of the early cars in the modern idiom of the sports-luxury sedan. While they had reasonable success in their home market, a few also found takers in North America. You can find this 1967 Triumph 2000 Mark 1 for sale with bidding at $1000 and 3 days left to go in Watkinsville, GA.

RustyButTrusty On The Street – BMW, Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac

December 8, 2013

One interesting thing to note is that not only is there a vibrant automotive enthusiast scene in the dry western states, but also that people drive their older vehicles on a more frequent basis. That even includes commercial vehicles, some of which are still in use by businesses at the ripe old age (for a car, of course!) of 50 or 60. However, before we get too far down that path, let’s check out some recent sightings.

Back in Action – 1993 Saab 900S

November 27, 2013

Apparently, while we were searching out old cars, NEVS (the new owners of Saab) ran a pilot car through the production line. The Saab 9-3N is essentially the old GM-based 9-3, with a gasoline engine and no major changes. While we’re not about new cars here, it’s always sad to see a manufacturer go (even milquetoast Mercury), sometimes for sentimental reasons and sometimes for their unique approach to building a box on four wheels. With that, here’s what some will call the last year of the last real Saab, and in very youthful condition too. You can find this 1993 Saab 900S for sale in Tacoma, WA for $2900.
