Apparently, while we were searching out old cars, NEVS (the new owners of Saab) ran a pilot car through the production line. The Saab 9-3N is essentially the old GM-based 9-3, with a gasoline engine and no major changes. While we’re not about new cars here, it’s always sad to see a manufacturer go (even milquetoast Mercury), sometimes for sentimental reasons and sometimes for their unique approach to building a box on four wheels. With that, here’s what some will call the last year of the last real Saab, and in very youthful condition too. You can find this 1993 Saab 900S for sale in Tacoma, WA for $2900.
Remarkably, this Saab has only 58,000 miles. The pictures show a red car in great condition, perhaps needing a little detailing work. It’s said to have belonged to a grandmother (cool grandma!) who fell ill only a few years after buying it. She put about 5000 miles/year on it, fell ill in 2004, and then the car sat until 2012. The silver lining is a car that’s the equivalent of 5 years old – assuming 12,000 miles/year, cars this age would ordinarily have about 180,000 more miles!
Look at that interior. No sunken seats, no sagging door panels – the headliner is starting to fail, however. The car has had some recent work, including tires, an a/c recharge, and an oil change. It has accumulated some miles since it was parked up, which is actually good since you know any bugs from the storage would have cropped up. The car is said to need an oxygen sensor soon, as well as some attention to the left side of the front bumper, and to a small rust spot on the bottom of the driver’s door. If it hasn’t been done, you’ll want to go through and replace all the post-storage consumables like hoses and fluids.
How is this shot helpful? At least you can tell it does, indeed, have an engine, and it’s the 16-valver, but that’s about it. It does highlight a couple of neat Saab features, including the wrap-around windshield, clamshell hood, and mud flaps. Where else can you get a 5-year-old Saab for this price?

This is nice. The seller might have been nice enough to include a pic of the damaged bumper; I would have.
