Pick ‘n’ Pull Palooza – 1971 Fiat Spider and 1986 Fiat X1/9

September 15, 2013

The local Pick ‘n’ Pull junkyards 9excuse me, automotive recycling centers) up in western Washington seem to be having a good run of Fiats lately, so it’s become worthwhile to highlight some of the offerings. Fiat spiders are still a great bargain compared to other comparable cars, and as a result, the earlier ones with small bumpers and more elegant detailing are becoming harder and harder to find. This 1971 spider should have the 1608cc twincam engine under the early smooth hood, and is available in Olympia, WA for $1100.

$0.98/lb – 1967 Chrysler Newport

The other side of the grass is sometimes greener, and in this case, the green-ness refers to relatively simple construction and ready availability of parts. If you’ve ever owned an oddball foreign car, you know the feeling of going to the regular car parts store and having them ask, who makes that? Is that the V6? Anyhow, that general line of thinking leads to today’s feature car, a 1967 Chrysler Newport hardtop sedan for $3900 in Sterling Heights, MI, near Detroit.

1967 Datsun 2000 Fairlady

September 14, 2013

With the vintage Japanese car scene growing, these cars have finally been getting the attention they deserve. The 2-liter engine cranks out respectable power (more than many of its competitors), and the styling is as good as that of most of its sixties English competitors. This particular car is under restoration, but looks like it would make a good driving project. As a good runner with many new parts, it should make a fun driver while you get the cosmetics fixed up. This Datsun 2000 is available in Tucson, AZ for $3500.
