Since Nissan’s Z sports car started to go the way of the boulevard in the late 1970s, and had fully arrived there by the mid-1980s, they’re not too interesting for a major part of the car-loving population. However, they (along with a number of other Japanese, German and American cars) were the subject of top-chopping efforts by various small coachbuilders. One of the most famous and prolific was Straman, who converted everything from Hondas to Ferraris. Check out this 1984 Nissan 300ZX Straman convertible for sale for $2400 in Daly City, CA.

April 28, 2014Light Truck Tuesday – 1969 Suzuki Carry
April 22, 2014Suzuki has now been gone from the American market for a couple of years, but it’s time to recall one of its first forays here. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the International Equipment Corporation imported the Suzuki Jimny micro-off-roaders. It’s likely they also imported a few of Suzuki’s Carry line of pickup trucks, as there are a few of them here and there in North America. A good alternative light truck for urban or landscaping use, they’re low on power, low on weight, and low on center of gravity. If you didn’t see the front-mounted cab and pickup bed, you’d probably think that description was something a lot more fun. Check out this 1969 Suzuki Carry for sale for $3000 in Paso Robles, CA.
Pre-SUVs – 1973 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser and 1964 International Scout 80
April 11, 2014Remember when… all 4-seat, lifted passenger vehicles were generically referred to as jeeps, much like we refer to tissues as Kleenex, or cotton swabs as Q-tips? Remember when they were most likely to have 4-wheel-drive? Here are a couple of vehicles from that period – a Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser and an International Harvester Scout 80. Both were the manufacturers’ efforts at coming up with a vehicle for sporting and utilitarian use, carrying more passengers than a pickup, while being able to haul the same loads and get through rough terrain and weather. Our first pre-SUV is this 1973 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser for sale for $3500 in San Francisco, CA.
