How Long Will It Last – 1973 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

May 9, 2016

If you’ve ever yearned for the days of live radio contests, where you had to dial your local radio station for the privilege of answering a question that might get you that day’s set of Miami Sound Machine tickets, the closest modern analog to that might be when you see a desirable car at a lower-than-market price in the online classifieds. Unfortunately, the online listings don’t always include a phone number, so you’ll have to rely on your aggressive emailing skills instead – or look at the map the seller kindly provided and exercise your modern cyberstalking skills. In any event, it’s worth looking at the listing for this 1973 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 for sale for $4000 in Arvada, CO.

California Car – 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

May 2, 2016

Back when the Alfa Romeo Milano debuted, it was certainly a challenging design – people thought the high trunk line made them look like they’d been rear-ended. But with the benefit of hindsight, the car looks a lot better, and many other manufacturers used the low-front/high-rear look in the coming years. Of course, they were also dogged by the cheap-to-buy, expensive-to-maintain woes – rapid depreciation meant people with little appreciation for the complexities of what was, at the time, a high-output V6 were not prepared to do the maintenance needed, and the underdeveloped timing belt system on the otherwise-awesome Busso V6 was just icing on the cake. That said, the Alfetta-based transaxle platform was pretty well-developed at this point, making it an excellent driver’s car with power and handling to show the German competition a thing or two. Check out this 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde for sale for $2500 somewhere in Orange County, CA. Thanks to reader Marc for this suggestion.

For Real? – 1970 Fiat 850 Spider

April 5, 2016

Basic sports cars are truly about the most bang for the buck – Midgets, Sprites, 700s, Spitfires and 850s all share enthusiastic (if not powerful) engines, sharp and often Italian styling, commonly have a removable top, and will do quite a bit of what the big-boy Bs, TR6s, Spiders and more will do on a fraction of the fuel. With attrition over the last 40 years, it’s not so common to find a running example for a low price of entry, which means you should take a look at this 1970 Fiat 850 Spider for sale for $900 in Sebastopol, CA.
