For those of you who are feeling left behind by the collector car bubble that’s driven the value of some muscle cars, Porsches, Ferraris and more to unattainable heights, the opportunities are still out there if you have time. Even some 1980s cars have started taking off as people are looking for a seat before the music stops, but if you’re willing to buy and hold (and drive, of course, that’s the whole point!), the Starion/Conquest cars are a great bet. You can find this 1986 Mitsubishi Starion Turbo for sale in the San Fernando Valley, CA for a mere $2750.

November 12, 20131979 Mazda RX-7
November 6, 2013Mazda just won’t give up. In 1967, they started selling the first Wankel rotary engine, having spent several years on developing the version they’d licensed from NSU. In 1970, due to low emissions, and in spite of high fuel and oil consumption, they brought the rotary engine to the United States. In the early half of the decade, Mazda’s rotary-powered lineup grew to several cars and a North-America-only pickup truck. However, the oil crisis put a stop to that, and Mazda reverted to regular piston-engined cars. However, they stuck with the idea, and in 1978, they unveiled the RX-7 sports car, which survived in three generations through 1995, followed by the 2003-2012 RX-8. Find this second-coming car, a 1979 Mazda RX-7 for sale for $2500, in Tacoma, WA.
Scoop! 1981 Porsche 928S
October 31, 2013People always carp about how the 928 is complex, how it needs a lot of service, etc. But what if you take the perspective that the demise of the car is already a forgone perspective (sacrilege!), and that you’re just here to help it enjoy its golden years? Sort of like a hospice nurse for a terminal patient. Anyhow, with thousands of Porsche 928s made, and many at the lower end of the market that are probably not worth repairing, you might try that with this car. The first question you might be asking as you read this is, should this be in the Bad Ideas subgroup? Well, it’s possible, but this car seems to have many things going for it. You can find this grey market 1981 Porsche 928S for sale for $3000 in San Francisco, CA.
