Well, in case $500 is not a low enough price for a fun project, the crack team of research interns here at RustyButTrusty HQ has found an even cheaper, rarer, and possibly more interesting car. In its brief stay here, from 1975-1981, Fiat’s 131/Brava was an affordable alternative to a BMW or Alfa Romeo sedan, perhaps picking up from where the original Datsun 510 and Fiat’s own 124 left off. As mentioned before here, rear-wheel drive, a twincam four, and a 5-speed are a fairly irresistible combination. You can find this 1977 Fiat 131S Mirafiori for sale for $200 in Reno, NV.

Lower! Lower! Lower! – 1977 Fiat 131S Mirafiori
April 21, 2014ASI-Certified – 1972 Fiat 128 Berlina
March 28, 2014Continuing the theme of featuring interesting cars from abroad, here’s a first for us – a “historic” car which has received its certification from ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiani). This certification is only given to cars with a known history that are located in Italy, and gives some special benefits that only apply there, such as access to areas blocked to normal cars. So for us foreigners, the primary benefit is that of the car’s history, and that cool little badge on the front bumper. And it should come as no surprise by now that the love here is strong for little Italian tin cans, the 128 ranking high on that list. Unfortunately, most surviving 128s in North America appear to be the later, big bumper examples, so for an earlier 128 it’s easier to go abroad. That’s how you’ll find this 1972 Fiat 128 Berlina 4-door for sale for €2000 ($2751 today) in Agropoli, Salerno, Italy.
Colli Alternative – 1974 Fiat 124 TC Wagon
March 7, 2014Ever had a hankering for an Alfa Giulia or Berlina? Or, even further down that path, a Giulia Colli wagon? Well, sure, if you have $20-$50K, you can pick one up with a little rust but otherwise in good shape. And never mind the low production numbers, which means most folks haven’t even seen one. So what’s a old-car nut who doesn’t mind a bit of rust to do? Well, there’s another similar-sized wagon with equally significant styling, and what’s more, they also have a twincam, 1.6-liter engine, 5-speed transmission, and rear-wheel drive. And if that doesn’t blow your mind, they were built by the factory, so no struggling to get body panels made by hand when your friendly local Fiat dealer has them in stock, right? Wait, what? There’s no Fiat Mobile Tradition/Classic/Heritage division? you can find this 1974 Fiat 124 TC wagon for sale for $2500 in Burlingame, CA.
