It’s been said before, but for reasons that are becoming less and less valid as time goes by and these are no longer just used cars, the latest Italian spiders (forgetting the most depreciated F-elephants in the room) are still under-appreciated classics. Parts are easy to get locally or online, their performance is still competitive among modern cars, and their styling is iconic and critically acclaimed. Thanks to the rising tide in collector car values, or perhaps some increase in recognition, their obscurity can’t last forever. If you’ve ever thought of picking up one of these budget-friendly, shade-tree-friendly classics, you might want to act soon – what better reason to take a look at this 1974 Fiat 124 spider for sale for $2950 in Portland, OR?

July 14, 2014Rare Fare – 1972 Fiat 124 Coupe BC
May 8, 2014Among truly affordable cars that can cause weakness in the knees, and silly thoughts of selling a minor organ (maybe a gall bladder), the Fiat 124 coupe ranks pretty high. In its favor are rarity, style, that sweet twincam, and the fact it shares many parts with a very ubiquitous platform. If you can throw a virtual rock without hitting an online listing or resource for Fiat 124s, you’re using the wrong internet. A good 124 coupe can be every bit the equivalent of a BMW 2002, Datsun 510, or Alfa Romeo GTV, although the interior bits are a little more likely to fall off. Some survived the odds, though – check out this 1972 Fiat 124 Coupe for sale for $3800 in Natick, MA.
Fiat Day – 1979 Fiat Spider 2000
January 30, 2014Number nine on the Sports & Exotic Car roadster list is the Fiat 124 spider. As with its Alfa cousin (brother-from-another-designer?), this Pininfarina/Tjaarda designed car is an underappreciated classic. While there are tangible differences between the Fiat and Alfa (Alfa uses a fancy cast aluminum hood release, for example), on a higher level these are both competent, comfortable roadsters with excellent, raspy twincam fours and five speed transmissions, as well as easy-to-use tops. You can find this 1979 Fiat Spider 2000 (which, by its chassis code, is actually a 132) in Amherst, NH for $4000.
