Projects and Parts – Fiat 124 Spider, X1/9, 500 and 850 Spider

October 16, 2015

It’s time for a survey of some interesting Fiats available for sale. The first is this 1976 Fiat Spider for sale for $1850 in Long Beach, CA. There’s nothing fun like a classic car with a wacky paint job, and this is a great example. Was the painter going for patriotic Italian-American? Beach umbrella style? Curiously, there are auxiliary lights on the rear fenders, and the top frame needs adjustment or repair. It’s said to run and drive well, but not much more is provided in the way of details. Stripes mean nobody will run into you when you’re waiting for a tow.

Rusty and Probably Trusty – 1968 Fiat 124 Spider

May 1, 2015

Just when you thought only cars newer than 1980 were getting written up, here’s a quick feature of a car that was a candidate for the RustyButTrusty fleet. And no, this time it’s not a tale of woe where the car slipped away. That said, it could still be a tale of woe, but only because the car was missing a couple of things that were important to this buyer. However, it’s still very appealing in the sense that it’s an early smooth-hood AS-series spider, supposedly with a 1438cc twincam Lampredi four cylinder (more on that later). It’s also got the lovely small bumpers, little round side marker lights, small tail lights, and probably some other features the Fiatisti among you will know about. Check out this 1968 Fiat 124 Spider for sale for $2500 in Portland, OR.

Ragged Ragni – 1974 and 1973 Fiat 124 Spiders

October 20, 2014

If you oddball car lovers can’t find a 124 sedan or coupe to fulfill your twincam 4-seater needs, the spider is a more ubiquitous and excellent alternative. If you get one with rust and it gets a bit worse because you use it as a daily, no need to worry as it’s a common car. And the excellent top makes it a nearly all-weather car, with a good heater and decent power and reliability. For emergencies, there’s even a pair of tiny seats in back you can use for short trips. Paralyzed by rust worries? Find yourself a galvanized Audi or Porsche and get used to being kicked out of classic car drives. Fix it again Tony? Shut up! Now we’ve got that out of the way, take a look at this 1974 Fiat Spider for a mere $980 in Boulder Creek, CA.
