Familiar Sight – 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV

May 1, 2014

It’s high time another Alfetta appeared here. Fortunately, the online gods favored us, and provided a nicely faded, red Alfetta GTV. This looks awfully similar to the RustyButTrusty Alfetta GT before paint, almost eerily so. However, it does have some interesting details that will make it pop when hell freezes over and Alfettas get their due among collectors. Chief among those are the two chrome bars in the grill (known as baffi among Alfettisti) that replicate the two grill bars on the 1969 GTV and Berlina, the fuel filler door, and GTV vent covers. You can find your long-distant-future collectible in this 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV for sale for $3500 in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA.

1989 Earthquake Tested – 1951 Studebaker Commander Coupe

April 28, 2014

There are only a few Studebakers from the post-war era that seem to enjoy universal popularity among collectors – the Hawk and its various derivations, and the bullet-nose Commander, particularly the Starlight coupe version. The Starlight version was unusual for having no C-pillars, and a rear window that wrapped around from B-pillar to B-pillar. All 1950-1951 Studebaker Champion and Commanders got the distinctive bullet nose, though. And that’s where today’s car comes in – check out this 1951 Studebaker Commander for sale for $1000 in Loma Prieta, CA (epicenter of the 1989 earthquake!).

Petit Coupe – 1969 Peugeot 204 Coupe

April 25, 2014

Many fashionable coupes on plebeian platforms, such as the VW Karmann Ghia, Ford Capri, and Fiat 850 have appeared here. However, there are some that didn’t make it to North America, in spite of following the same recipe, and having a Pininfarina-designed body to boot. That car is the Peugeot 204 coupe. The Peugeot 204 has made one appearance on these pages, but even that was likely a personal import, as these were never officially brought to North America. Built from 1965 to 1976, it was the best-selling car in France from 1969 to 1971, and was offered in sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon, and van bodystyles. You can find this 1969 Peugeot 204 coupe for sale for €1500 ($2076 today) in Limoges, France.
